In Germany, Kraft Foods has relaunched its Jacobs instant coffee range with a new style dose-dispenser in the lid of the jar, so a portion of coffee can be poured out directly into the cup, rather than having to use a spoon.
Bellot of France has come up with an unusual flavour for Limonade au Miel. This honey-flavoured lemonade is made with natural flavours of lemon, lime and blood orange. It also contains mineral water and natural honey and so is ideal for sports people as honey boosts endurance and encourages recovery after exercise.
In France, Lea Vital has launched Vital Tonus, an instant chocolate drink made with 100% vegetable ingredients. It contains wheatgerm, soya and low-fat cocoa. Thanks to its soya content, it is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, while wheatgerm provides B complex vitamins, vitamin E and minerals.
Spanish company Alimentos del Valle has adapted traditional Spanish dish gazpacho by designing Ajoblanco. It consists of a cold soup made with puréed almonds, virgin olive oil, lemon juice and garlic. It comes with a sachet of croutons and raisins to be sprinkled on the soup before serving. The product is chilled and has a shelf life of 42 days.
Nestlé has launched Milchreis-Zauber and Griessbrei-Zauber under the Maggi brand. These two instant desserts have been launched in individual pots and can be prepared via the addition of hot water to give either a milk rice pudding or semolina dessert. The products have been launched in the wake of the success of these types of product in the chilled desserts market, offering a convenient long life, shelf-stable option.
Danish company Danaeg Products has launched a new concept of eggs under its Danaeg brand. They combine convenience as well as food safety and are available in organic and free range varieties. The eggs are packed without their shells and shoppers can buy yolks and whites separately. Danaeg eggs are found in the chilled and frozen food cabinets and have a shelf life of 56 days for chilled eggs and 12 months for the frozen versions. This product won the SIAL d'Or Award.
When most of the cheese sold in the US is used in pizzas, it is not surprising to see Sorrento launching pizza-flavoured cheese strings. Sorrento Stuffsters are cheese strings with a pizza sauce centre. They are made with low-moisture, semi-skimmed mozzarella cheese, pizza sauce and spices. Sorrento Stuffsters are targeted at children, and come in a 10oz pack.
