Sainsbury and Carlton Communications have formed a joint venture covering digital TV and the internet. The supermarket group will provide food and wine knowledge, technical expertise and recipes from its about to be launched website, plus home shopping through its revamped SainsburysToYou home delivery service. Carlton will use its media assets, SimplyFood and Carlton Food Network, to promote and sell e-commerce services in food and drink. The multiple will also provide fulfilment facilities to the joint venture through Sainsbury'sToYou. The service will receive a step-up in capacity with the summer opening of a large dedicated picking centre in Park Royal, north west London. - Waitrose has launched Gifts Direct, the seventh online Waitrose.com service.
