Galbani, which supplies mozzarella and dolcelatte to the UK, has been accused of selling products with counterfeit use-by dates.
According to Italian newspaper La Repubblica , investigators are reviewing evidence that suggests use-by dates on certain cheese and meat products had been altered by workers at a depot in Perugia.
In a letter to customers, Galbani admit ted to an incident occurring in 2005 that it said had been dealt with. The company has since invested in technology to prevent this happening in future.
