Europe’s leading halal foods brand Isla Délice has added German-based Gurkan to its roster.

Isla Délice’s portfolio includes Takul, one of the UK’s fastest-growing halal brands, which has listings in Tesco and Sainsbury’s for its products including cooked meats and chilled pizzas.

Takul was one of 13 businesses bought by Isla Délice’s private equity owner Perywn last year.

Gurkan is a specialist manufacturer of pastirma, a premium halal beef product. Germany is one of the main halal markets in Europe.

Following the acquisition of Gurkan, Isla Délice’s sales now exceed €155m.

Isla Délice CEO Eric Fauchon said Gurkan had a “clear market position in Germany with a premium offering, and 25 years’ experience in that market. Together with Isla Délice’s chilled and frozen portfolio, we look forward to bringing innovation to the German halal consumers.”

John Gallagher, investment director at Perwyn and a board member of Isla Délice, said “entering the German market underscores the group’s strong commitment towards its international expansion.”
