Asda expects to complete the installation of Wal-Mart's Retail Link intranet information system in its UK stores by October this year well ahead of schedule.
New systems have gone live in a number of stores across the country in the past few weeks as part of what Asda is dubbing Break Through 2000.
This is the internal project name being given to the overhaul of Asda's IT systems, which includes the installation of Retail Link and a new EpoS system.
Retail Link allows suppliers and buyers to access data about product sales, inventory information and shipping to help them better manage the supply chain. The data is accessed via an intranet link using a password. With the roll-out gathering pace, Asda said it would not be long before customers were reaping the benefits through improved availability.
Retail Link will be unveiled officially next month.
Asda has been preparing to integrate its IT systems with Wal-Mart's since the takeover was completed and has been training staff for a number of months.
