Purina's catfood brand Felix may have been licking its chops at the weekend after pouncing on 35% of the featured promotional space taken by the five most active petfood brands, but it has lost its top spot in the year to date to Mars dogfood brand Pedigree. Felix sits in third place with 25% in the 2007 year-to-date chart behind Pedigree and Mars' Whiskas - and six percentage points behind the first-place position it held at the end of 2006.Pedigree has swapped places with Felix in the year-to-date chart with 28% of activity, up 12 percentage points on last year. Whiskas, meanwhile, remained consistent taking third place last weekend with 18% of petfood offers. The brand stays in second place in the 2007 year-to-date chart - the same position it occupied in 2006 - having increased its share of promotional space from 22% to 27%. The fourth most active petfood brand last weekend was Purina's Winalot with 12% of featured space. Again, showing consistent promotional activity, Winalot is in joint fourth place in the year-to-date chart with 10% - the same position as 2006 but with an increase of 2%. Two brands shared last place in the top five chart last weekend - Purina brand Bakers and Mars brand Kitekat with 6% each. Bakers sits in joint fourth place alongside Winalot in the year-to-date chart. It has moved four places up the chart and increased its share by four percentage points to 10% since 2006. Kitekat was in joint 11th place in the 2006 end of year data, and so far this year it has only dropped one place to share 12th position. The petfood category shared 10th place in the overall featured space promotional activity chart last weekend. With only six brands on promotion, the category took 3% share of total offers. Correction: In last week's issue (Promotrack, p20), we incorrectly reported that Harvest Chewee was a Quaker brand. In fact it is owned by Honey Monster Foods.
