Sir; Your Focus on Lunchbox Takeaways (May 13) provided food for thought, as always.
My particular interest is in cheese snacks and I was intrigued by the way this category had been segmented and measured.
Clearly, there are two ways of looking at it. Usual measurements include dips and other ready-to-eat formats, but not portions. This is the definition used by AC Nielsen.
Based on this definition, Dairylea Lunchables is market leader with a 27.7% share, followed by Golden Vale Cheesestrings (26.9%) and Dairylea Dunkers (23.3%).
Whatever the definition, the good news is that the cheese snacks category goes from strength to strength it is now worth £81m by our calculations.
