Asian-inspired restaurant Itsu is claiming a UK first with the launch into grocery of Crispy Seaweed Thins for Children.
Two variants, Original and Tomato (rsp: £2.50/4x3g), provide 367 calories per 100g. Their salt content per 100g is around 1.2g, while sugar is between 1g and 5.2g.
They are high in fibre and vitamin B12. They also contain iron, antioxidants and protein, and are a source of iodine – “a nutrient vital for wellbeing, effective metabolism and mental development” according to Itsu.
Crispy Seaweed Thins for Children came “with demand soaring from busy parents looking for child-friendly healthy snacks” said the brand, which added its first seaweed snacks in 2012 and soon saw “an overwhelming number of parents feeding seaweed snacks to their children”.
Available now from Waitrose, Whole Foods Market and Ocado, the new range was the result of “years of hard work and development” and marked “a category-first for kids’ snacking”.
Itsu’s marketing director for grocery, Natalie Sugarman, said: “Having already established ourselves as number one UK brand in seaweed, launching a children’s range was the logical next step. The search for healthy, low fat and low sugar snacks the whole family can enjoy has never been greater. We’re confident Crispy Seaweed Thins for Children will be a terrific hit with parents and children alike.”
It comes a week after Itsu made launched a frozen range of Bao Buns. A Hoisin Duck variant is available at Tesco and Sainsbury’s (rsp: £3.75/six buns), while other flavours are scheduled for January.
