James Lousada will become CEO of Carlsberg UK from 1 January, the brewer has announced.
Lousada, currently sales director at the brewer, takes over from Benet Slay, who will leave at the end of January to pursue other interests. Slay has led the company since February 2012, after working as MD at Diageo.
Lousada joined the company in January this year, after three years as general manager Europe at Accolade Wine. He left Accolade in August 2012 when its new owner Champ Private Equity divided the role into UK & Ireland and Continental Europe. Prior to this he worked at Fosters, Southcorp Wine and Anheuser-Busch.
Lousada said his predecessor had left the UK business in a strong position to move forward in 2014. “We have a new vision and ambition, a strong leadership team, and exciting customer-focussed plans,” he said.
The company said it was sorry to see Slay go, saying he had set a new vision and strategy for the business and assembled a strong management team. However it added that he was leaving the company to an accomplished successor who had a wealth of experience.
