Mark Game, managing director of surplus food redistributor Company Shop, has left the business.
Executive director Jane Marren will take on the additional role of MD and will work with the senior leadership team and the company board. There are no plans to recruit a replacement.
Company Shop is open to people working in the food manufacturing sector and emergency services on a members-only basis, offering discounts of up to 70% on surplus goods from the likes of Heinz, Kraft, Tesco and M&S. It claims to prevent 30,000 tonnes of food going to waste every year.
In December 2013, it launched Community Shop to help people in disadvantaged communities and by November 2015 revealed it had secured a £7.6m funding package to expand its network of stores.
“By 2017, we will have saved more surplus stock from becoming waste by opening five brand new Company Shop stores,” said Marren. “We will also have significantly expanded our social supermarket, Community Shop, which provides good food at great prices to families that need it most, whilst providing them with tailored development support.”
Game, who is also a trustee of FoodCycle, said on his LinkedIn profile: “Having worked with a great team at Company Shop for over 15 years professionally, it is time to move on.
“I now look to 2016 and for new opportunities, developing the ideas around sustainable, social business models in a variety of areas and industries.”
