Independent retail chain Jempson’s is set to begin a multimillion-pound extension of its Rye superstore.
The project, which begins this week, will give the Rye site 50% more retail space and a new car park layout.
Scheduled for completion in June, the work will include the addition of a fresh produce market hall, a bakery expansion, an extended food-to-go area, an improved aisle layout and more checkout facilities.
The new store will also incorporate the town’s Post Office.
“This is a very exciting time for Rye,” said Jempson’s Rye store manager Mandy Hall.
“Jempson’s is a name synonymous with the local area. We are confident that the overhaul of the Rye store will underline our continued commitment to the good people of Rye and the surrounding areas.”
The store will remain open throughout the refurbishment.
“We have always had a commitment to our Rye store, but we’ve had one or two challenges to overcome along the way,” said Jempson’s MD Stephen Jempson.
“Suffice to say my colleagues and I are excited by how the upgraded, extended and improved supermarket will look.”
