Jeremy Clarkson’s The Cotswold Brewing Company has recalled cans of its Hawkstone Black and Hawkstone Spa Lager after failing to disclose the presence of wheat in both brews.
The recall affects all batches of both beers, but not bottles of Hawkstone IPA, Hawkstone Premium Lager, Hawkstone Session Lager and Hawkstone Cider, which are stocked by Waitrose.
The undeclared presence of wheat – which contains gluten – posed “a possible health risk for anyone with a wheat allergy or intolerance”, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said.
Customers who had bought the affected products and had an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, or those with coeliac disease, should not consume them, said the FSA
Instead, they should return them to the store where they were bought for a full refund.
For further information, they could contact Hawkstone on info@hawkstone.com or call 01451 824488, it added.
“Both Hawkstone Spa Lager and Hawkstone Black remain fit for consumption for those who do not have a wheat allergy,” The Cotswold Brewing Company stressed. “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
Clarkson launched the Hawkstone beer and cider brand in 2021. The beers in the range are produced using barley from the TV presenter’s farm in Oxfordshire.
