JJ Food Service is supporting a new initiative to make London takeaways healthier.
The wholesaler is working with the Mayor of London on the Healthier Catering Commitment certification to promote healthy choices for independent customers with café and takeaway outlets.
JJ Food Service has distributed brochures to 13,000 of its fast food customers featuring a 10% discount across many fresh and ambient lines for those who sign up.
Independents can apply through Environmental Health London for the HCC certification and sticker to display on shop windows.
It is open to all takeaway and fast food outlets, including those that use deep fat frying.
“We do play a part in the obesity of Londoners - guilty as charged,” “We’re making it easier for our customers to supply consumers with healthier choices. Human beings don’t like to change, but we can make small changes without them even being noticed, We can encourage our customers who use palm oil, which is full of nasty bits, to use something like rapeseed oil.” said JJ Food Service GM Terry Larkin.
