JJ Food Service has seen rapeseed oil sales soar since signing up to the Healthier Catering Commitment (HCC).
The delivered wholesaler, which teamed up with the Mayor of London and HCC in February, has seen sales of the “healthier” oil increase by 23%.
When it teamed up with the scheme, which encourages takeaway and café owners to provide healthier options for their customers, JJ distributed 13,000 brochures promoting lower-sugar and lower-fat products and offered a 10% discount to customers who signed up to the commitment.
“As a result of distributing our Healthier Catering brochure to our Enfield and Sidcup customers via direct mail and digital media, plus our presentation to caterers at the recent City Hall event, almost all products featured within the brochure saw an increase in sales with rapeseed oil in particular up by 23%,” said JJ general manager Terry Larkin.
The group will now offer the same membership discount to caterers.
“The caterers we spoke with were pleased that there was an incentive in place from a wholesaler in recognition of joining the HCC,” said Larkin.
“We will continue to champion healthier eating and to offer the discounted rates to new HCC caterers,”
