Leading bacon supplier Tulip has announced plans to shed more than 200 jobs from its Thetford operations.
The company blamed tough trading conditions and the loss of major annual contracts for the decision, which will see the loss of 165 permanent workers and 60 temporary positions from the Norfolk plant.
Steve Crozier, operations director, said: "We very much regret having to take this decision, but the loss of those large scale contracts means we're not in a position to sustain the number of staff currently in the business."
The redundancies, some of which, it is hoped, will be voluntary, will be made from mid-June.
Crozier stressed the company was continuing to invest in Thetford, highlighting a recent £2m ongoing investment in the main site infrastructure, and added it would be working to rebuild the lost business.
