Company Shop, the fmcg redistribution business, has announced the appointment of John Kitson as its group finance director.
With extensive commercial and financial experience in the food, consumer products and distribution sectors, Kitson took up his new role today (1 February).
He was previously group finance director at Symington’s, where he played a major role in quadrupling the company’s turnover across a seven-year period, and became a non-executive director.
Before joining Symington’s, Kitson was group finance director at footwear and fashion product developer Peter Black International, where he was responsible for accounting, treasury, tax, IT and property.
He has also worked as group finance director with life assistance product provider CPP Group, finance director with Booker, and group finance controller with Northern Foods – among other senior finance positions.
In his new job, Kitson will join the boards of both Company Shop and its social enterprise, Community Shop. He has replaced Ben Westerby, who has moved on to pursue other projects, according to a Company Shop spokesman.
Kitson’s strategic insight and expertise would be “invaluable” to growing the Company Shop offer, said John Marren, the business’s founder and chairman.
Company Shop and Community Shop work with major retailers, manufacturers and brands across the UK to stop more than 50 million items of food and household products going to waste each year.
