John West is extending its Can Tracker provenance technology from tuna to salmon, mackerel and sardines.
Can Tracker allows shoppers to trace canned fish to the ocean it was caught in and the boat that caught it by entering an on-pack code into the John West website.
It was launched on tuna cans last year and will be rolled out to salmon, mackerel and sardines shortly.
Expanding Can Tracker to all of John West’s core fish products was “another big step forward for us”, said MD Paul Reenan.
The technology was a good way of increasing shopper awareness of John West’s sustainability and sourcing credentials, he added.
