Diageo has unveiled the second whisky in its top-end Johnnie Walker Blue Label ‘Ghost & Rare’ series.
It has launched Ghost & Rare Port Ellen, which is created using highly sought-after whiskies and those sourced from closed ‘ghost’ distilleries.
The new expression (43.8% abv) is an homage to the Port Ellen distillery, which shut its doors in 1983, with its rare single malt at the heart of the blend.
Meanwhile, “‘ghost’ whiskies from Caledonian and Carsebridge add layers of creamy, vanilla sweetness while rare malts from Mortlach, Dailuaine, Cragganmore, Blair Athol and Oban deliver rolling waves of waxy citrus, rich malt and tropical fruit flavours”, said Johnnie Walker master blender Jim Beveridge.
Individually numbered bottles will launch into specialist retailers in October (rsp: £275/70cl).
It comes as Johnnie Walker added £1.4m to its value over the past 12 months, hitting £18.8m [Nielsen 52 w/e 21 April 2018].
