The fallout from Tesco’s management shake-up continued this week, with Jonathan Taylor replacing Gary Mills as retail director for the north and Northern Ireland.
Mills, previously retail director for convenience, was given the role as retail director north only in February, as part of a shake-up that saw One Stop boss Tony Reed take the lead on Tesco’s convenience operation.
Tesco would not comment on the reasons for Mills’ departure, though he is understood to have taken redundancy.
Taylor served as Tesco’s London convenience director from March 2013 until its separate London division was disbanded earlier this year.
Also this week, it was revealed Tesco’s group agriculture director Tom Hind is to step down next month after less than two years in the role.
Hind was appointed in 2013 by former Tesco CEO Philip Clarke to head its newly established agriculture team, and to build stronger supply chain relationships in the wake of the horsemeat scandal.
Before joining Tesco, Hind worked at the NFU for more than 15 years, chalking up experience as its chief dairy adviser and latterly as its corporate affairs director.
“We can confirm Tom Hind will be leaving Tesco,” said a spokeswoman, who thanked him for his “hard work”.
“Tom has played an integral part in building effective and long-term relationships with farmers and suppliers across the UK, and ensuring Tesco remains British agriculture’s biggest customer and proudest supporter,” she added.
Meanwhile, Nick Lansley, Tesco’s former Tesco Labs and R&D boss and another recent Tesco departure, has become an adviser at web and mobile investment fund EC1 Capital.
