France’s bestselling wine brand, JP Chenet, has won its first listing in Tesco.
The brand, with its distinctive twisted neck bottle, is sold in most other UK multiples and cash and carries, but has only just got a foot in the door at Tesco with an exclusive variety.
JP Chenet Sauvignon Blanc Vin de Pays des Côtes de Gascogne 2003 is made from individual parcels of grapes which are harvested at night.
Tim North, UK director for exporter Les Grands Chais de France, said a major part of the brand’s success was its strategy of adapting wines in the range to suit local markets. He added: “For Tesco in the UK we wanted a Sauvignon Blanc that was crisp and refreshing with citrus flavours and grassy aromas.”
The wine is available at selected Tesco stores, priced £3.99.
