Juicy Marbles has launched a Pork-ish meat alternative into the UK market after success in the US.
Pork-ish (rsp:£6/180g) is a mini loin made of soy protein and is the brand’s “most affordable whole cut” to date.
The launch is part of Juicy Marbles’ new Meaty Meat range, which is designed to be a “versatile plant-based protein made to rival tofu”.
The product has a “deliberately ambiguous shape” and can be sliced, chunked, shredded or cooked whole in under seven minutes.
Pork-ish goes on sale in Tesco on 30 April.
“We’re delighted Tesco is bringing Pork-ish into homes across the UK,” said Luka Sinček, co-founder of Juicy Marbles. “Seeing how warmly Britain has embraced our steaks, we’re sure they’re gonna love Meaty Meat.
“It’s more versatile, a bit more affordable, and opens up whole new vistas of plant-based possibilities,” he added. “I can’t wait to troll the Instagram feed and see what people come up with.”
It is made using the brand’s ‘Marble 3.0’ recipe and is free from thickeners, stabilisers and preservatives. It contains 21g of protein and includes micronutrients.
“A lot of plant-based alternatives are too light on essential nutrients like protein, iron, and B12 – or too heavy on saturated fats,” said co-founder and R&D chief Maj Hrovat. “People want nutritionally sensible food that helps them reach their daily nutrition goals.
“If we want plant-based meats to be a viable alternative, they have to match – or exceed – the nutritional convenience of meat, while also having a sensible ingredient list. Marble 3.0 is our cleanest, most nutritious recipe to date, and will be our standard,” he added.
