Carlsberg Group has appointed Julian Momen chief executive of its UK business.

Momen is promoted from chief financial officer, a role he has held since September 2012.

He replaces interim chief executive Michiel Herkemij, who becomes senior vice-president for Western Europe and member of the Danish group’s executive committee from 1 April.

Momen, who has 30 years’ experience in the food and drink industry, spent more than half that time working for Diageo.

He has also worked for General Mills and RHM Adelie.

He will continue to implement the transformation changes Herkemij started.

Herkemij, who has undertaken the interim UK chief executive role since October last year, will take over from Jørn Tolstrup Rohde as senior vice-president for the group’s Western Europe region and becomes a member of Carlsberg’s executive committee.

He will continue to work closely with Momen because he remains responsible for Carlsberg UK in his new role.

Momen said: “Michiel has started that new direction of greater value and brand focus, and I am delighted to be able to continue the exciting, challenging journey on which we embark.”

Herkemij, who has previously worked for Sara Lee - Douwe Egberts, Heineken, Friesland Foods and British American Tobacco, said Carlsberg was in “a very interesting phase” and Western Europe remained Carlsberg’s “home field”.

Rohde leaves after seven years leading the Western Europe region “upon mutual agreement”.

Rohde said: “After almost seven years as senior vice-president for Western Europe and after careful consideration, I have decided it is time to move on to new challenges outside Carlsberg. I will look for a new position leading an operational company.”

Carlsberg UK has started the search for a new chief financial officer.
