Just Eat has begun publishing the food hygiene rating of every restaurant it lists, in a move welcomed by the Food Standards Agency.
A link accompanying menus on Just Eat’s website and app leads to the FSA’s star rating out of five, together with the date of the latest inspection. It gives customers access to the food hygiene ratings of 30,000 restaurants and takeaways, and follows a trial with 600 in Northern Ireland, according to Just Eat.
“I am pleased to see Just Eat taking the lead by making this positive step to publish the food hygiene ratings for businesses on their website,” said FSA chairman Heather Hancock.
“Having this transparency allows consumers to consider food safety when choosing to order food online and will help drive up standards across the sector. I encourage others in this sector to follow suit.”
Just Eat UK MD Graham Corfield said it would give customers the information they wanted while also incentivising restaurants to invest in food safety.
“We spoke to customers about the information they want before choosing their takeaway and their feedback was clear,” he said. “They want easy access to independent information about the hygiene standards of their local restaurants and we’ve worked hard to make that a reality.”
