Kelly Turkeys - which sells the well-known KellyBronze brand of premium turkeys and also supplies free-range own-label poultry to the mults - is launching a 24-hour drive-through so consumers can pick up their Christmas turkey.
The farm will open from 8am on Tuesday 23 December through to 5pm on Christmas Eve as part of celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the first sale of its KellyBronze in 1984.
“Last year we sold more than 1,800 turkeys direct from the farmgate in the two days before Christmas,” said sales and marketing manager Philip Regan. “Opening through the night is the next step. It’s all about improving convenience for our customers.”
Kelly will also be supplying specially reared birds from the first hatch of the season to the first 30 people who ordered a Christmas turkey when order books opened on 1 October. The birds were grown on woodland and fed on a blend of naked oats, flaked maize and wild nettles to give an extra creamy finish and flavour, said MD Paul Kelly.
“We like to make collecting the turkey a really special occasion for families, who often bring their children to join in the festive mood.”
Regan added turkey orders from independents and butchers were slightly up on 2013, despite customers generally ordering later.
“They seem pretty strong, maybe a bit better than last year,” he said. “But we all suffer from later orders these days and have to be more flexible when it comes to sale or return.”
