Kerry Foods has expanded its Richmond sausages range with a new thin chicken line, containing just 48 calories per sausage.
The product adds to the brand’s chilled thick chicken line, which launched two years ago, and a frozen variant which launched last year. It went on sale in Asda earlier this month (rsp: £2.59/pack of 12) and will continue to roll out across the mults over the course of 2019 and 2020.
The sausages had been developed to offer customers a “broader range of choice and a versatile ingredient for a variety of meals”, Kerry said.
Each sausage contains 52% chicken and has casings made from beef collagen.
“This new launch supports our ambition to champion chicken and give families additional options to enjoy leaner, healthier proteins as part of a balanced diet,” said Richmond marketing and category director Dawn Spencer.
“There continues to be a noticeable attitudinal shift towards alternative proteins in sausages, especially chicken sausages, and we are excited about this launch. We are feeling incredibly positive about the success it will bring following the positive reaction to our other chicken products with consumers. The full chicken portfolio will help strengthen our master brand and drive further sales for our retail partners.”
