As The Grocer predicted (July 21, p9) Heinz is adding a purple variant to its US ketchup portfolio from September. EZ Squirt Funky Purple joins Tomato Red and Blastin' Green ­ which was launched in the UK last month. Heinz UK admitted it "might well" bring purple over here too. A spokeswoman said: "Unprecedented consumer demand for green sauce following its successful debut in the US led us to launch it in the UK. We will be watching closely to see how purple performs over there." Brian Hansberry, US vice-president of marketing for sauces, said purple was currently one of the hottest colours for kids. {{NEWS }}
