KFC has provided the equivalent of two million meals to FareShare since its partnership with the charity started in 2022.
The fast food giant has redistributed surplus chicken from more than 950 KFC branches to almost 1,000 charities across the UK.
The redistribution programme supported charities and community groups by providing frozen chicken, which it has made available for collection directly from KFC restaurants.
“Our food is too good to waste, and we’re passionate about making a real difference in the communities we serve”, said KFC chief corporate affairs and sustainability officer Jenny Packwood.
“As food insecurity continues to impact so many across the UK, we are proud to be playing our part in helping to provide good-quality, protein-rich food and tackle waste by getting our surplus fried chicken to people who need it most.”
FareShare CEO Kris Gibbon-Walsh added: “We’re hugely grateful to KFC for continuing to support FareShare by supporting our mission to ensure no good food goes to waste.
“Two million meals is an incredible milestone, and it’s through the hard work and dedication of KFC restaurants that they have reached this achievement earlier than anticipated. The surplus chicken KFC redistributes through FareShare gets vital protein to local charities, providing meals and strengthening communities across the UK.”
The programme, which was piloted in 20 KFC sites in the Midlands, the north east and Essex, was scaled up in June 2022 and was rolled out to nearly 1,000 sites in the UK by May 2023.
