Aussie drinks group Lion Nathan said its third quarter volumes were up 1% on last year lead by beer brands Tooheys New, XXXX Gold and Hahn Premium Light.

CEO Gordon Cairns said: "Our New Zealand volumes also grew, up 3%, with the premium brands led by Steinlager, and Speight's particularly strong."

Sidney-based Lion said that its wine business remained on track through strong export demand of its Banksia and Petaluma wines, plus growth in the premium local segment which would deliver full-year wine earnings of A$8m.

The company also confirmed it is on track to deliver full-year net profit after tax of some A$160m.
