A new French wine campaign which pokes fun at the way British people pronounce grape varieties is not patronising, insists the trade group behind the push.
The promotion takes the form of an audio email which challenges recipients to identify which wine a Scot, a Geordie, a Yorkshireman and a West Countryman are trying to pronounce. Scores are totted up and displayed at the end.
The campaign is led by French wine trade body Onivins, with thousands of emails sent out to consumers and buyers.
A spokesperson for the campaign said it was humorous and attempted to demystify French wine for British consumers.
