London startup Kolibri Drinks is set to tap fmcg’s cannabis and low & no alcohol trends with a customisable RTD cocktail range.
The premium NPD (rsp: £5.99/300ml) “was the high street’s first CBD-infused, alcohol-free cocktail” Kolibri claimed.
The two-strong lineup comprises fruit-flavoured spring water in a recyclable glass bottle – the cap of which contains 20mg of broad-spectrum cannabidiol suspended in flavoured syrup. This allows consumers to choose the strength of their drink’s CBD and flavour. A full dose of syrup provides 4.6g of sugar per 100ml.
Kolibri’s CBD drinks come in Dark Forest, promising “woody, smoky notes balanced by an intense profile of pine and black pepper”, and Citrus Grove, styled as “a zesty blend of sharp curaçao, dried fruits and rich goji berry with a long bitter and herbaceous finish”.
The 0% abv RTDs will roll exclusively in to Holland & Barratt on 14 February. They “were created to excite the mindful consumers – the flavour-seeking friends who are either choosing to cut back on alcohol or those who are already enjoying the CBD experience but not its current formats of tinctures and pills” said Kolibri founder Kamila Sitwell.
The brand’s new drinks come as low & no alcohol drinks are booming. UK shoppers have taken home an extra £26m-worth of such products – the equivalent of 10 million litres [Kantar 52 w/e 14 July 2019].
At the same time, demand for cannabis in fmcg is at an all-time high, with CBD market intelligence provider Brightfield Group predicting global sales of $23.7bn (£18.4bn) by 2023.
Holland & Barrett was “over the moon” to be stocking Kolibri’s new lineup, said the health food specialist’s category manager Louise Broom. “Having seen the success of our wider alcohol-free beverage range, and the exponential growth within the CBD space across all Holland & Barrett categories, we’re looking forward to combining the two in the form of an experiential yet highly functional cocktail range.”
William Reed Business Media, the publisher of The Grocer, has launched a trade exhibition exclusively for the low and no-alcohol sector. For more information visit low2nobev.com.
