Kopparberg is to introduce a new apple cider in the UK.
Called Kopparberg Crisp Apple, the NPD would offer “the perfect balance of a traditional apple cider, with a touch of the brand’s famous sweet taste”, said Kopparberg UK supplier Budweiser Brewing Group.
The 4% abv tipple will launch in bottle and can formats for the off-trade on 1 January. Exact stockists and an rsp were not made immediately available.
Growing interest in apple cider among UK consumers had prompted Kopparberg to revisit the category, said BBG.
The UK’s fastest-growing cider in absolute value terms is Inch’s, a 4% abv apple variant made by Heineken, while Thatchers Gold and Henry Westons Vintage have this year leapfrogged Strongbow Dark Fruit to become the category’s second and third largest ciders by value [NIQ 52 w/e 7 September].
“Kopparberg’s ability to meet evolving consumer tastes with new flavours is a key reason behind it being the leading brand in fruit cider in the UK,” said BBG UK&I president Brian Perkins. “With the rise in apple cider as a preferred choice in the category, the product will not only attract existing fans, but also build new brand fans.”
Kopparberg founder Peter Bronsman added: “Taste spearheads everything we do at Kopparberg and there is no brand that understands younger drinkers better than we do. With a growing demand for modern apple ciders, we are thrilled to be able to bring Kopparberg Crisp Apple to market in 2025.”
It not the first time Kopparberg has launched a purely apple flavoured cider. It first launched Kopparberg Naked Apple in 2012, positioning the variant as a “crisper, fresher alternative” to established cider brands.
In 2017, it added a Sweet Apple cider made with honey. Both ciders had disappeared from shelves by 2019, according to Assosia data, however.
