Supermarket shelves have been stripped of KP Snacks products after a ransomware attack on the business.
KP Snacks – which owns Hula Hoops, Nik Naks, KP Nuts, Tyrrells, Discos and Skips – last week warned of disruption to its supply due to a cyberattack on its business. Disruption is set to last well into March, according to a letter sent to its customers.
The Grocer can reveal the effect of the cyberattack is now filtering into stores. At the time of writing, a search for ‘McCoy’s’ on Tesco’s website returned eight SKUs, all of which were unavailable.
Searching for the brand on the Sainsbury’s website, meanwhile, returned only one available SKU: Classic Variety Pack Crisps 6x25g.
Only two of the nine Hula Hoops SKUs listed Online at Tesco were available. Four Hula Hoops products were stocked at Sainsbury’s, but the retailer had posted a customer notification on the search landing page, stating: “You might find some of your usual products aren’t available.”
Sainsbury’s was “working hard to get them back in stock as soon as possible”, the message read.
When approached by The Grocer, a spokeswoman for KP Snacks said it continued to “make progress in recovering from our recent ransomware incident.”
The business had “been in regular contact with our customers to keep them informed of our recovery progress and will continue to keep them updated as we get closer to resuming production”.
