Kraft Foods UK and Ireland has promoted Nick Bunker to the role of vice president and managing director to oversee a £13m investment in its leading brands.

Bunker, who was previously head of Kraft Foods' European customer services and logistics operations, will be responsible for leading teams across a variety of functions, including sales and development. The global food manufacturer's portfolio of brands include Kenco coffee, Philadelphia and Dairylea cheeses and Terry's Chocolate Orange.

One of his immediate responsibilities will be to manage the £13m product and marketing investment in the Oreo, Dairylea and Toblerone brands over the next five months, with a particular emphasis on making Oreo - launched across the multiples in March - a major player in the UK biscuit category.

Despite Bunker's double-barrelled new job title, it is just one role. He replaces Ben Clarke, who has left the company for personal reasons .

"We have some excellent brand programmes in place and strong relationships with retail customers," said Bunker. "We launched Oreo recently with a fantastic reception from both the multiples and the convenience channel and we have seen the benefit of great advertising in brands like Toblerone.

"I am looking forward to working with a group of such committed and talented colleagues on the exciting projects ahead, though I recognise the challenge of unprecedented commodity and fuel prices," he added.

In 2000, Bunker was made managing director of Kraft's Middle East business. He is credited with moving its headquarters from London to Dubai where he successfully grew Kraft's cheese and Tang drinks brands within the key market of Saudi Arabia.

Bunker will be based at Kraft's UK and Ireland head office in Cheltenham.
