Leon has spent recent months bolstering its retail offering through its exclusive tie-up with Sainsbury’s

Leon looks set to make a surprise move into beauty products, supplements and confectionery.

It has applied to register its brand name as a trademark with the International Property Office under class 3, covering beauty products; class 5, accounting for dietary, nutritional and medicated supplements; and class 30, covering confectionery.

When approached by The Grocer for comment, a spokeswoman for Leon said it was “always looking at creating innovative new ranges, however, has no further information regarding this request at this stage.”

It comes after the brand last week launched a loyalty app, Leon Club, following customer demand.

The app, which is now available at all Leon sites across the UK, lets users order restaurant food, as well as reorder favourite dishes and rack up points in the process.

The EG Group-owned chain plans to open more than 50 restaurants across the UK next year.

Leon has also spent recent months bolstering its retail offering through its exclusive tie-up with Sainsbury’s.

Last September, for example, it launched a range of “plant-rich” soups and salads into the retailer in a bid to lure in health-conscious home workers.

In May, it launched a trio of organic coffees into Sainsbury’s.
