Former Aldi regional director Liam Rafferty has joined discounter Frozen Value, which trades under the Jack Fulton and Fultons Foods fascias, as managing director.
Rafferty worked at Aldi for 16 years, joining in 1999 as an area operations manager.
He took on the regional director role in October 2003, taking charge of stores in the North East and Yorkshire.
At Frozen Value he replaces Kevin Gunter in the managing director role. Gunter, who is joint owner of the company, is moving to the new role of chairman.
Gunter told The Grocer the moves were intended to strengthen the team, and he looked forward to Rafferty’s contribution at the discounter.
He also revealed Mike Hinchcliffe, who joined Frozen Value in 2012 as director of operations having previously worked for Netto, Poundstretcher and Ugo, had left the business.
Gunter added the company was also in the process of recruiting a retail director.
Frozen Value is ranked in 21st place on The Grocer’s ranking of the UK’s Top 50 independent grocery retailers, with sales of £66.4m in the year to 31 January 2014.
