The Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) has implemented an action plan to help eliminate confusion about the new Licensing Act.
The Act comes into force on November 24, when retailers will not be able to legally sell alcohol without a new licence.
However, with less than two months to go until the deadline for applications, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport says only 5% of licensees have applied for a new licence.
Culture minister James Purnell this week admitted there was a risk that small businesses could go the wall if they failed to get a new licence in time.
The WSTA has therefore developed a 12-point guide setting out who needs a licence, what kind of licence they need and how they can apply for it.
Barry Sutton, deputy chairman of the WSTA, said: “We’re doing all we can to galvanise the trade to take the necessary action.”
Shoppers can now enjoy a bit of vorsprung durch technik in stores, thanks to Asda’s revolutionary ‘tech-trollegy’. The Technik-trolley, modelled around German efficiency, is being rolled into 18 stores around the UK. Designed by Wanzl, the trolley features an independent suspension system and softsteer front castors. Asda says that this reduces vibrations and cuts noise levels by 75%.
