Discount chain Lidl and Tesco Ireland have settled a legal battle over “misleading” price comparison ads by the supermarket chain about the German discounter.
Lidl went to the High Court in Dublin to order Tesco to halt an advertising campaign placed in newspapers last month comparing its prices on certain goods with those in Lidl. In the ads Tesco claimed to be cheaper, but Lidl said some of the prices quoted were incorrect and other did not compare like with like.
Tesco has since discontinued the campaign and court proceedings have been wound up.
