Lidl GB’s CEO has written to customers ahead of England’s second national lockdown to set out the store safety measures in place.
In an email to customers today, Christian Härtnagel said that during peak hours a staff member would be positioned at entrances to control shopper numbers in stores.
Inside, floor markings, signage and audio announcements would remind shoppers to keep a safe social distance, he said.
England’s new lockdown starts from midnight tonight, with hospitality and non-essential shops forced to close.
Earlier today, Asda announced tighter Covid safety measures, including extending the hours in which marshals are stationed at store entrances.
Härtnagel’s email sought to reassure customers over store safety.
“We are fast approaching the festive period and this year will certainly be different,” he said.
“Events of this year may have understandably left people feeling uncertain about the future. However, one thing you can be sure of is that Lidl will be there for you and your family, providing a safe shopping experience and quality products, whilst never being beaten on price.”
He said there would be cleaning stations at entrances for customers to sanitise hands and trolleys and also reminded them of checkout screens, £45 contactless payment limits and the requirement to wear a face covering.
“I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all our Lidl GB colleagues, who continue to do a phenomenal job in such challenging circumstances, working tirelessly to ensure our stores are safe and our customers can enjoy a comfortable shopping experience,” he added.
“I would also like to thank our suppliers who ensure that shelves remain stocked and you continue to have access to what you need. Finally, I’d like to thank you, our customers, who have shown such patience and respectfully adhered to all new measures that have been introduced.”
