Lidl’s pork and herb sausages have won the top retail accolade at this year’s British Sausage Week Stand Up for British Bangers awards.
The discounter was presented with a gold award in the retailer category at an awards lunch yesterday. It was closely followed by Waitrose, which won a silver award for its Gloucester Old Spot pork & sage sausages.
In the branded category, A Turner and Sons - which recently secured £80,000 of funding from Peter Jones on BBC 2’s Dragons’ Den - won a retail brand gold award for its Alf Turner Best of British Pork Sausage. Graham White and Co won a retail brand innovation gold award for its Roasted Cumin and Garlic Pork Sausage.
The awards were presented by comedian Al Murray aka The Pub landlord who is travelling the country this week to promote British sausage Week. Millions of Brits enjoyed tucking into sausages every year, said Murray. “I’ll be travelling the length and breadth of the land crowning the pride of British bangers - it’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it,” he said.
