Lidl is to more than double the capacity of its warehouse operation in Belvedere, south London, after acquiring an additional 25 acres adjacent to the site.
The land will house a new 400,000 sq ft unit alongside the existing 290,000 sq ft site.
Belvedere is one of 13 UK Lidl distribution centres, currently employing 332 people and supporting 44 stores across south London.
A date has yet to be set for construction of the new unit to start.
Lidl opened a new distribution centre in Doncaster in January this year, with more on the way in Bolton, Peterborough, Luton, Leeds, a new regional distribution centre for Scotland, and a new London HQ in Tolworth.
“In addition to opening new warehouses, we have a development programme in place to strengthen our existing operations,” said Lidl GB chief development officer Ingo Fischer.
“This will ensure that we are able to provide continued support to our current store network, whilst putting the infrastructure in place for future growth.
“In the past year we have opened our new distribution centres in Avonmouth and Doncaster, and are at the final stages of construction on our new distribution centre for Scotland.”
