Lincolnshire Co-op is asking the public to help it find suitable sites as it looks to rapidly expand the business, with a £5,000 prize offered to those who make successful suggestions.
The society has prompted members of the public to visit its website to submit the details of their location suggestion, including answers to ‘how would you describe the surrounding area?’ and ‘how nearby is the site to competitors?’.
It also asks if the proposed location is an existing store, building, or area of empty land. Those who make successful suggestions will receive £5,000 upon the store’s opening, subject to terms and conditions, the retailer said.
The call for recommendations comes as the society plans to open around 30 new convenience stores over the next three years, increasing the number of Lincolnshire Co-op food stores by a third. It currently owns 94 convenience sites.
Lincolnshire Co-op kicked off the expansion programme with a £1.8m investment into its Laceby food store, near Grimsby, which opened in June. Its Scartho food store, also near Grimsby, will be the next site to open on 31 October.
Further south, the society has pumped £2.5m into transforming a former tractor repair site on March Road in Coates, near Peterborough, into a Lincolnshire Co-op food store. Work began last week.
Another £10m has also been committed into developing the next five Lincolnshire Co-op food stores.
“We have an ambition to be the UK’s fastest-growing co-operative, and we’re keen to deliver even more valued services,” said Lincolnshire Co-op COO Steve Leach.
“We’re driven by our purpose, which is to make life better in our communities. Having a presence in more communities means we’re able to make even more of an impact.”
Lincolnshire Co-op shops stock a range of items, including freshly baked bread, fresh and frozen food, fruit and veg, as well as local beers and wines.
Shoppers will also find services such as recycling bins for soft plastics, food bank collection points, and battery recycling in stores.
