Lion’s mane mushrooms have made their UK supermarket debut in Sainsbury’s.
Kent organic mushroom farm Urban Farm-It has secured a listing in the retailer’s superstores across the country for its mushrooms.
The fluffy white individual mushrooms are available in 200g punnets, priced at £5, and are “perfect for adding to gourmet twist to everyday dishes”.
“Bringing this unique ingredient to consumers across the country is a huge milestone for us,” said Urban Farm-It founder Elliot Webb. “Lion’s mane is gaining recognition for its versatility in plant-based cooking, with its meaty texture making it an excellent alternative to seafood and meat.”
The mushrooms have a naturally dense texture and delicate flavour, which make them a “versatile ingredient for plant-based cooking”.
They are harvested at peak maturity on the farm and then packed in a fully recyclable black cardboard punnet.
The packaging includes a QR code inviting Sainsbury’s customers to explore the journey from farm to plate. It also provides access to a specially created recipe book with dishes from plant-based chefs.
“Urban Farm-It are passionate about growing exceptional produce and we can’t wait to see how shoppers embrace the unique flavour and culinary potential of lion’s mane,” said Webb.
