Lipton’s controversial Instagram post quickly went viral

Iced tea brand Lipton has pranked shoppers by claiming it had “discontinued” its core Peach variant in an Instagram post.

The soft drinks brand yesterday posted a graphic of its Peach can adorned with angel wings to the social media site, featuring the caption: “Rest in Peach”.

“You may have heard that our iconic Peach Lipton Ice Tea flavour is getting discontinued,” the text stated.

“We know – it hurts (sorry if we’ve ruined your go-to afternoon chill bev). But don’t worry, the rest of your faves are still here to keep you refreshed. And who knows? Maybe one day, Peach will make a legendary comeback.”

The graphic, which also featured the caption #RIPeach, was signed by the Lipton Ice Tea team.

The comments section quickly filled with complaints from fans of the drink. “The best one is the peach why would you discontinue it just WHY,” posted one shopper. Another consumer branded Lipton’s decision to discontinue Peach as “disgraceful”.

However, Lipton today posted another graphic to Instagram, confirming “Peach is here to stay”.

“Oops, is it still March? Got my dates mixed up… thought it was April Fools already!” the text stated.

“Your love for Peach has not gone unnoticed… I will be sending a surprise to fans with the best reactions,” it continued.

It comes as Lipton is making concerted efforts to broaden its repertoire beyond iced tea alone.

Earlier this month, it added a trio of flavoured sparkling kombucha drinks – Strawberry Mint, Raspberry and Mango Passionfruit (rsp: £4.99/4x250ml) – to tap the growing kombucha market.
