Baby and toddler food brand Little Freddie is to launch a comprehensive plan designed to improve its sustainability in early 2019.
The campaign will include a long-term aim of making its packaging recyclable or reusable and reducing food waste through its supply chain. Measures will include clearly marking recommended portion sizes on its product packaging, and creating a recyclable scheme that will mean its pouches can be recycled. The brand will also reveal a food waste reduction target in early 2019 as part of its Big Green Plan.
It comes after the brand hired its first environmental and sustainability manager, Jess Ainley, in May.
Little Freddie, which made its UK debut in April, is also looking to ensure its handpicked, organic ingredients are sustainably sourced, and are farmed in an environmentally friendly way.
Little Freddie is also working towards meeting an internationally recognised standard for reducing its impact on the environment in 2019. The ISO 14001 certification is a voluntary audit to help organisations improve their environmental performance through efficient use of their resources and waste reduction. It identifies cost savings, monitors and controls the impact of its operations on the environment, and ensures legislative awareness and compliance.
Little Freddie claimed to be one of the few smaller businesses that has undertaken the “thorough checks on its environmental credentials” required to achieve the accreditation.
“Our Big Green Plan will show our commitment to reducing our environmental impact,” a spokeswoman said. “We aim to play a leading role in the baby category on sustainability.”
