Online seafood retailer Loch Fyne Oysters has launched a line of live mussels, sold in modified atmosphere packaging with high oxygen levels keeping mussels alive for 10 days.
The range went on sale last month on the brand’s website (rsp: £4.99/640g), claiming a first with the introduction of live mussels sold for the retail market. Its Hebridean golden shell mussels come with 100g of either Thai green curry or white wine, cream and garlic sauce, created in collaboration with restaurant chefs.
The Scottish-based company launched the products to give consumers the opportunity to eat the freshest possible product at home, with convenient preparation.
The ASC-approved mussels are grown on ropes in Loch Roag on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, and cook in 10 minutes or less.
“We strive to achieve consistency of quality through taste, texture and genuine provenance, and serving our produce as fresh as possible is key to that,” said Loch Fyne Oysters MD Cameron Brown.
“Our new product range contains our own mussels, accompanied by two delicious sauce options. We worked with an industry-leading chef team to find the perfect accompanying sauces for our mussels that would ensure our customers could experience our acclaimed products live in a convenient way, served at restaurant quality, within the comfort of their home.”
