Lomond: The Wholesale Food Co has achieved a B Corp status, becoming the first Scottish food wholesaler to achieve the recognition.

It said the certification marked its commitment to providing the “highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability”.

Verified by B Lab, the non-profit organisation behind the B Corp movement, the certification assesses the full scope of a company’s operations, including governance, workers, community, the environment, and customers.

Lomond joins more than 2,400 companies in the UK spanning various industries that have also been certified, including The Guardian, Innocent Drinks, Patagonia, Tony’s Chocolonely and Finisterre.

“The journey to B Corp certification reflects the dedication of the Lomond team and together we have achieved this remarkable accomplishment,” said Lomond director of technical and health & safety Anne McDonald.

“The result is not just a testament to the skills and hard work of all the team, but of Lomond’s unwavering commitment to be better in all aspects of our business.

“We are honoured to be part of the B Corp family and look forward to a positive future of continual improvement bringing benefit to our people, the community and the planet.”

B Lab UK executive director Chris Turner said: “We are delighted to welcome Lomond: The Wholesale Food Co to the B Corp community. This is a movement of companies committed to changing how business operates and proving that business can truly be a force for good. We are confident that Lomond Wholesale will be a fantastic addition to this community and will continue to drive meaningful change.”

Lomond added that it was proud to source local and sustainable ingredients for its extensive product range. By collaborating with local farmers and suppliers, Lomond aims to reduce its environmental footprint and contribute to the growth of its local economies.

It said this commitment was complemented by its partnership with Cake, a manufacturing company owned by Lomond, which is also B Corp certified.
