Refillable toiletries brand Love Ocean has beaten a £150k crowdfunding target as it looks to invest in expanding production and raising awareness for its range.
The business is currently overfunding on Crowdcube and so far has raised £183k from 172 investors. It follows a previous campaign on the same platform last year where it more than doubled a £150k target to help launch the brand.
Founder Gabi Jennings initially sold the Love Ocean Kids bubble bath and hair & body wash through its DTC website, offering a subscription service for its signature whale tail bottles and refill pouches.
It has since won listings with Ocado, Selfridges, Boots online and Bower Collective, an online eco supermarket specialising in refillable products.
“We are delighted to have successfully completed our second fundraising round on Crowdcube,” Jennings told The Grocer.
“This new funding will help accelerate our growth over the next 12 months allowing us to invest in additional stock and product development and driving brand awareness within our retail and ecommerce channels.”
Love Ocean has plans to launch a baby range in 2022, an adult range in 2023 and a youth range in 2024.
The brand’s formulations are vegan, eco, ocean and reef-friendly and made without SLS, petrochemicals, parabens or colourants and contain sustainably sourced organic British seaweed and kelp extracts.
It also partners with social enterprise Plastic Bank to fund the removal of the equivalent weight of 10 ocean-bound plastic bottles with every bottle of Love Ocean sold.
In the past 12 months, Love Ocean said it had funded the removal of 20 tonnes of plastic from oceans.
