The company behind Gogo’s Crazy Bones - arguably the biggest playground craze in years - is hoping to repeat its success with a new collectible game.

In news likely to chill the hearts of parents who step on a small plastic Gogo’s figure every time they enter their child’s room, on 14 February producer Magic Box Int will be rolling out follow-up range Kobots.

Dubbed a ‘dual-action game’, Kobots features 48 brightly coloured collectible figures that are split into six teams and come in both home and away kits, so there are 96 Kobots to collect in total.

Magic Box - which also produces the Bungees figures - is packing each Kobot with a reversible base that gives players two ways to use their figures. Games are played by flicking Kobots at targets or their opponent’s figures using a plectrum-style device called a Krator.

Figures will be available in a range of formats that all come with two figures, two bases and stickers. Starter packs (rsp: £3.99) also contain a sticker album, a Kobotron practice target and Game Arena, and there is a £1.50 pack containing a Krator and game guide (rsp: £1.50), and a £2.50 pack with a coloured storage bag.

The brand will be supported with TV and online advertising, and the company is also in talks to sponsor a kids’ TV segment or channel. Sampling activity will include a 200,000-pack giveaway.

Analysts NPD, which tracks about 70% of UK toy sales, said 61% of Gogo’s Crazy Bones sales had gone through the grocery channel.
