Wine specialist Majestic Wine is re-opening its York branch after floods forced it to close in December.
The flood wrote off £150,000 worth of stock at the Foss Islands Road store and caused damage that will cost in excess of £100,000 to repair.
After three months of refurbishment, the store will hold a tasting evening on April 28 to mark its reopening. Majestic will donate 20% of proceeds from in-store sales during the first week of trading to The York Flood Appeal.
York store manager Jeff Terry said the flood damage was a “real shock”. There were “boxes everywhere, smashed bottles, sludge and the smell was awful,” he said.
Terry pledged the refurbished store would be “better than ever” with a new tasting area and a “lighter, smarter” feel.
