Makro Cash & Carry is gearing up to relaunch its Gold Card scheme this year to coincide with its 40th ­anniversary.

The wholesaler is trialling new elements to the scheme, which rewards its biggest-spending customers, at a handful of depots. The card offers up to a 4% reward to customers who spend £10,000 a year or more with Makro. They can also use a special Gold Card entrance, express till and get a free breakfast.

The changes being trialled are understood to include changing the reward structure from quarterly to yearly, and lowering the entry level. "We constantly assess the available benefits, which our customers tell us they love, and this year will be no different. Various new elements are currently being trialled," said Makro UK MD Hannes Floto.

Customers would also benefit from a series of anniversary promotions to be revealed at the end of the month, added Floto.
